April 21, Pope Leo XIV arrives in Equatorial Guinea

Pope Leo XIV's visit to Equatorial Guinea marks the conclusion of his 10-day apostolic journey throughout Africa, which commenced on April 13, 2026, and included stops in Algeria, Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea.

The arrival of Pope Leo XIV in Equatorial Guinea was celebrated with a grand ceremony at Malabo International Airport.

President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, along with his wife, Constancia Mangue de Obiang, and the Apostolic Nuncio to Equatorial Guinea extended a warm welcome to the Pope upon his arrival.

The ceremony featured a floral tribute presented by two children.

The welcome ceremony features, in addition, the playing of the national anthem as well as the Vatican anthem, and the introduction of the respective delegations.

This occasion marked the official commencement of the Pope's apostolic journey to Equatorial Guinea, underscoring the diplomatic relations and the Vatican's involvement in Africa.
